Website check: find content that has quietly aged

The DustOff website check reads the text on your site and reports passages that read as out of date: expired offers, past events, old years, announcements of things that already happened. You only enter the address; the result appears right on the page. One website stays free.

  4. 4Get reminded. Optionally add your email so DustOff keeps looking on your rhythm.

What this check looks at

It reads the visible text, not the plumbing:

  • Offers and discounts whose period has ended
  • Events and dates that are already in the past
  • Years that no longer match today's date
  • Seasonal notes outside their season
  • Announcements of something that already happened

How to read the result

Every entry shows the page it came from, the sentence that triggered it, and a short reason in plain language. That combination matters: a finding you cannot locate on your own site is a finding you will not fix.

Sort by what a visitor would notice first. A discount that ended last spring on your pricing page costs you more than an old year in a footnote nobody reads. Work down from there.

  • Fix anything a customer could act on wrongly — prices, dates, availability.
  • Update anything that makes the business look inactive, such as a years-old latest news entry.
  • Leave true historical text alone, and mark it so future checks stay quiet about it.

How often it makes sense to look

For most small business websites, once a month is the sweet spot. Content ages slowly, but campaign pages and seasonal notes age all at once, right after the season ends.

If you publish offers or events regularly, a weekly rhythm pays off, because the gap between an offer ending and the page still promising it is exactly where trust gets lost.

What it deliberately ignores

Load time, broken links, security and infrastructure stay out of scope. Good separate tools exist for those, and they answer a different question.

DustOff answers only this one: is there anything on your website that is no longer true today?

Häufige Fragen

Is the website check free?
Yes. One website is free forever, including the regular email reminder.
Do I need to install anything?
No. The address is enough; no access to your system is required.
How many pages are read?
Up to 50 pages per run on the free tier, considerably more on the larger tiers.
Does the check change anything on my website?
No. It only reads publicly visible pages, exactly like a search engine would. Nothing is written, submitted or altered.
What if a passage is old on purpose?
Mark it once and later runs stay quiet about it, so archive pages and dated press releases do not keep coming back.
